April 4, 2021 — In an effort to meet demand, Mercy is partnering with Havenwyck Hospital to build a 60-bed psychiatric hospital near Mercy’s southwest campus in Byron Township. Diane Henneman, divisional vice president of behavioral health at Universal Health Services said demand for behavioral health care and substance abuse treatments is “at a higher level than we have probably seen in the past 10 years.”

WOOD-TV: Citing rising need, Mercy Health plans new mental health facility

April 1, 2021 — Mercy Health is teaming up with Havenwyck Hospital out of Auburn Hills, an affiliate of Universal Health Services, to build a new mental health facility on Mercy’s Southwest Campus. This comes after Havenwyck Hospital was issued a state Certificate of Need Proposed Decision on Monday. The certificate tentatively approves development of a new inpatient behavioral health hospital at the site south of Wyoming with 60 adult inpatient beds. The facility can also include space the development of 24 additional beds for geriatric psychiatric patients, plus space for future expansion.

Wolverine State Watch: Mercy Well Being, UHS Plan To Build Psychiatric Hospital Near Grand Rapids

April 1, 2021 — In a joint announcement, the two health organizations announced that Havenwyck had received the first approval for a government needs certificate required to build the hospital. Once a final decision on the certification of needs was made, Mercy and Havenwyck would enter into their joint partnership agreement.

Yahoo: Universal Health (UHS) Ties Up for New Psychiatric Hospital

March 31, 2021 — UHS affiliate Havenwyck Hospital received an initial approval for a state Certificate of Need (CON) Proposed Decision on Mar 29, 2021, which is required to build a new inpatient behavioral health hospital. The company forged an alliance with the regional, multi-campus, Catholic health care system Mercy Health for this joint venture. Subject to closing approvals, the site construction will begin this year. The hospital is expected to open in spring 2023.
