Crain's Grand Rapids 6/06/23 — Universal Health Services Inc. broke ground Monday on a new $46 million psychiatric hospital in Byron Township. The 96-bed Southridge Behavioral Hospital is targeted to open in 2025 on 64th Street NW, near the Trinity Health Medical Center, adding needed inpatient capacity in Kent County for adult and geriatric patients with a mental illness. Southridge Behavioral Hospital will employ 170 full- and part-time staff. “Southridge Behavioral Hospital will help address the growing need for high quality mental and behavioral health care services for people struggling with depression, anxiety, substance use and other issues, and who need hospitalization and intensive individualized care,” said Trinity Health Grand Rapids President Dr. Matt Biersack. “Southridge represents a sustainable, long-term solution and it will be a key piece of the behavioral health care continuum in West Michigan.”
