Expanding our reach in the communities we serve to treat more people

New hospitals, new services, more care professionals, new technologies. Just some of the ways UHS is investing in local communities, like yours.

Did you know?

UHS was founded in 1979 and our mission has remained the same for nearly 40 years. To provide superior quality healthcare services that: Patients recommend to family and friends, physicians prefer for their patients, purchasers select for their clients, employees are proud of, and investors seek for long-term returns. Each day we strive to provide a higher level of care and improve our patients’ experiences and we are succeeding.

We believe that hospitals will remain the focal point of the healthcare delivery system. Our goal is to treat our patients like they are members of our own family.

When we deliver the highest quality care and treat every individual who comes into one of the facilities with dignity and respect, treating them with compassion and using innovative treatments and technology, we will be the provider of choice in every community we serve.

UHS is driving our mission and our goal is to ensure every community has access to quality healthcare services, especially in communities that were previously underserved.

This is what UHS has done throughout its history, building and acquiring hospitals, expanding services and programs, and caring for more people year after year. One example is the growth we have achieved in Las Vegas since 1979. Valley Hospital Medical Center was the first hospital acquired by UHS when the company was founded. Today, there is an integrated network of nine facilities dedicated to acute care and behavioral health services from Henderson to Pahrump to Las Vegas and Reno. In addition, Prominence Health Plan was acquired by UHS in 2014 and is a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) that also offers point of service health plans, preferred provider organization (PPO) plans, and Medicare Advantage HMO plans. The Prominence Health Plan network of providers includes 34 hospitals and over 3,500 providers in Nevada.

In 1983, UHS expanded its reach further when it entered the behavioral health field and established an innovative approach to psychiatric services where each facility tailored its services for the local communities.

As we grow, we continue to leverage our successful philosophy to further benefit the communities we serve. For instance, as we are able to treat more people, we can recruit even more specialized medical staff for those same communities and raise the level of expert care even further. This is helping us become recognized by the community as the leading provider for comprehensive stroke care, cardiac care and orthopedic and maternity services.

We are delivering our services farther into the community, thanks to new freestanding emergency departments and urgent care centers we are opening throughout Texas, Nevada and Florida.

Improving the health of the communities we serve is not just about adding facilities, it is about enhancing the patient care experience. One way UHS is doing that is by implementing some of the most advanced infection control systems to improve patient safety. We’re also incorporating clinical intelligence to positively impact patient care delivery, outcomes and operations.

We're also employing physician quality documentation software to measure quality of care, patient acuity, clinical notes and physician responses in real time.

UHS has always said it does not want to be the biggest provider of healthcare services, but it does want to be the best provider of quality care to every patient we serve.
