Sierra Medical Center hosts ceremonial ribbon cutting in advance of public opening

Reno, NV, Monday, March 21, 2022 — Northern Nevada Health System (NNHS) today hosted a ceremonial ribbon cutting to introduce its second hospital, Northern Nevada Sierra Medical Center (SMC), to local dignitaries. SMC is the first full-service hospital to be built in the region in nearly a century and joins the Health System’s growing operations, including sister facility, Northern Nevada Medical Center based in Sparks. The facility is expected to open to the public spring 2022.

“This expansion will improve access to healthcare, offer more choices for patients, and serve as an extension of the quality care already offered within the Health System,” said Alan Olive, Chief Executive Officer of Sierra Medical Center. “The legacy Northern Nevada Health System has built over the years shows our dedication and commitment to excellence in patient care. We strive to ensure every person has the resources available to take control of, and elevate, their health.”

Sierra Medical Center will initially provide 170 private patient rooms and has the capacity to quickly expand its shelled space. New services will be introduced Labor and Delivery, Oncology, Cardiovascular and Neurosurgical services. The facility will also have 24/7 emergency care services, lab, diagnostic imaging and surgical and orthopedic services.

The 245,000 square-foot state-of-the-art hospital is centrally located at 625 Innovation Drive near the intersection of Longley Lane and Double R Blvd. In addition, the campus will be home to a medical office building that will be home to outpatient healthcare services. The expansion is planned to open in 2023.
